Ayako Hiramatsu is a scholar on American politics and American political history. In August 2016, she received a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the Political Science Department, Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, U.S.
Her PhD dissertation, titled Politics of Subnational Democratic Consolidation and State Party Elite Adaptation in the Deep South, 1964-1980, examines the local consequences and the national repercussions of America’s most recent democratization experiences in Alabama, Georgia and South Carolina.
